Ingredients
- 1 t Alum
- 2 Quarts of water
- 2 C White Vinegar
- 1/2 C Pickling Salt
- 2 T Salt
- 2 T Sugar
- 1 T Pickling Spices
- 6 Cloves of Garlic
- 12 washed Cucumbers (quantity depends on size)
- 3 Mason jars (quart size)
Directions
- Combine water, vinegar, sugar and salt to make a brine
- Boil this brine for 5 minutes
- Remove from heat and let brine cool
- Add alum to brine
- Place 2 garlic cloves, 2 dill sprigs and a heaping t of pickling spices in each jar
- Place cucumbers (whole or sliced) into jars
- Pour brine into jars covering cucumbers
- Place lids on jars and tighten
- Shake each jar gently
- Let jars sit on counter for 2-3 days shaking gently each day. The cucumbers will turn into pickles during this time.
- Refrigerate after the 3rd day.
