Cheryl’s Dill Pickle Recipe

Ingredients 

  • 1 t Alum
  • 2 Quarts of water
  • 2 C White Vinegar
  • 1/2 C Pickling Salt
  • 2 T Salt
  • 2 T Sugar
  • 1 T Pickling Spices
  • 6 Cloves of Garlic
  • 12 washed Cucumbers (quantity depends on size)
  • 3 Mason jars (quart size)

 

Directions

  1. Combine water, vinegar, sugar and salt to make a brine
  2. Boil this brine for 5 minutes
  3. Remove from heat and let brine cool
  4. Add alum to brine
  5. Place 2 garlic cloves, 2 dill sprigs and a heaping t of pickling spices in each jar
  6. Place cucumbers (whole or sliced) into jars
  7. Pour brine into jars covering cucumbers
  8. Place lids on jars and tighten
  9. Shake each jar gently
  10. Let jars sit on counter for 2-3 days shaking gently each day.  The cucumbers will turn into pickles during this time.
  11. Refrigerate after the 3rd day.
