Honey White Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg active dry yeast
  • ¼ C melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 5 C all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ C warm water (110 F)
  • ¼ C honey
  • ½ t salt
  • pinch of sugar (optional)

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in the warm water.
  2. Add 1/8 (a pinch) of sugar to the bowl to help the yeast start working (optional)
  3. Let the yeast/water mixture sit for 10 minutes as the yeast “proofs” and begins to foam slightly.
  4. Add the butter, honey, eggs salt and 2 cups of the flour, saving the remaining 2 cups to be added in Step #4.
  5. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds.
  6. Slowly add in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.  The will take most if not all of the remaining flour.  If using an electric mixer like a Kitchen Aide, use the dough hook attachment while adding the flour and knead until smooth and elastic about 5-7 minutes . (You can also do this by hand, roughly 8 minutes).
  7. Place the in a greased bowl turning once to grease top.
  8. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled; about 90 minutes.
  9. Punch dough down.
  10. Shape into loaves.
  11. Place in greased loaf pans.
  12. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 60 minutes.
  13. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  14. Remove from pans to wire rack to cool.
