Fry Bread (Navajo Fry Bread)


  • 3 C Flour
  • 1 t Salt
  • 2 t Baking Powder
  • Water


  1. Mix all ingredients together
  2. Divide dough into 9 round balls and place on floured wax paper
  3. Heat up 1/4″ to 1/2″ vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet and heat the oil until it is just under smoking temperature
  4. Take each ball and stretch it flat into a “mini” pizza shape
  5. Place each into the hot oil and cook until golden brown
  6. Top with chili beans, tomatoes, cheese, lettuce and sour cream

Recipe Modifications
Dough should be refrigerated or kept cool before stretching (step #4)

4 cups flour, 1 tbsp. powdered milk, 1 tbsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt, 1 1/2 cups warm water, oil for frying

2 cups sifted flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, 4 tsp. baking powder, 1 egg, 1/2 cup warm milk

2 cups flour, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 tbsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. salt
